It depends on the model. WiFi thermostat and WiFi switch: first download the free Smart Life or Tuya app, plug it into the wall and the heater into it, hold its button until the light flashes and pair it from the app. They work with 2.4 GHz WiFi. Digital thermostat: plug it in, press SET and use the arrows to choose the temperature at which it switches on and off; it needs no app or WiFi. Underfloor heating thermostat: it is recessed into a mounting box and connected by the electrician.
It is free. On your phone, open Google Play (Android) or App Store (iPhone), search for “Smart Life” or “Tuya Smart”, install it and create your account with your email. Inside, tap “+” to add the thermostat. The box also contains the QR codes for both apps.
The WiFi ones do (the WiFi thermostat, the WiFi switch and the underfloor heating one): once paired in Smart Life or Tuya, they link to Alexa or Google Home and you switch on and off by voice. The digital thermostat has no WiFi.
Yes. The heater works on its own and heats just the same. The control is there to save energy, because it decides when to switch on and off. For a short time, and while you keep an eye on it, you can plug it straight into the mains, and then put the control back.
Yes, with plenty of room to spare. Our low-consumption heaters draw about 2.2 amps and the WiFi thermostat handles up to 16 amps, so it works comfortably.
It has a 3-year warranty, plus 90 days to return it if you are not happy. It is built for many years of normal use.
